The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) activated Phase 1 of the environmental contingency for ozone in the Valley of Mexico. It explained that at 5:00 PM this Sunday, maximum hourly ozone concentrations of 158 and 157 ppb were recorded at the Ajusco Medio and Center for Atmospheric Sciences (CCA) stations, respectively, located in the Tlalpan and Coyoacán boroughs of Mexico City. It added that the Valley of Mexico region continues to be under the influence of an anticyclonic system, which replaced the one that withdrew yesterday; and although it is of lesser intensity, the persistence of a dry and stable air mass has caused clear skies and weak winds, as well as maximum temperatures of up to 28 Celsius. It detailed that the combination of these elements has caused favorable conditions for the formation and accumulation of ozone. The population is advised to Avoid civic, cultural, and recreational activities, as well as avoid exercising outdoors between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Suspend any outdoor activity, organized by public or private institutions, during the hours from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Postpone outdoor events, sports, cultural events, or mass spectacles scheduled between 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Do not smoke, especially in enclosed spaces. Facilitate and continue remote work and make purchases and procedures online to reduce travel. Avoid the use of air fresheners, aerosols, paints, sealants, or products containing solvents. Refuel after 6:00 PM and before 10:00 AM; do not refuel after the safety lock on the nozzle has been released. Check and repair leaks in home gas installations. Reduce the use of fuels at home, shortening shower time to a maximum of five minutes and when cooking, use covered containers. No driving day.
